Gemini 2 Review
The memory space on our computer devices is limited, and as such, we are always on the lookout for how to use the space optimally. Some of the files that waste precious space on our computer disk are duplicate files. These are multiple files that contain the same content. It might interest you to know that you can even have duplicate files on your system without even knowing. That is why you need to make use of an efficient tool that will help you discover all the duplicate files on your memory disk or specific folders for the purpose of deleting them. Gemini 2 is one of the most popular tools you can use.
What is Gemini 2?
Gemini 2 is a Mac software you can use to find and remove duplicate content from your Mac computers. This duplicate finder was developed by MacPaw, a software development company known for developing popular utility app for Mac. They are the developers of the popular CleanMyMac X software, which is an app for cleaning storage space and speeding on a Mac device. CleanMyMac X is a very powerful tool but lacks in one major aspect – it does not have support for finding and removing duplicate contents. Instead of adding it to the CleanMyMac X toolbox, MacPaw introduced this feature in Gemini 2 as separate software. Gemini 2 is the tool we are going to be reviewing in this post.
Gemini 2 Pros
I must admit, I am a fan of MacPaw and its set of utility tools. This is because their tools have proven to be ahead of most of their peers. For Gemini 2, I have only used it a couple of times. For the times I have used it, I noticed a good number of things I like about it – and you will like them too.
Gemini is Highly Specialized
Gemini 2 is not a jack of all trade. Unlike many other tools that have support for a good number of functions, Gemini has only one function. One thing you will come to like about Gemini 2 is that its function is highly specialized. It is a duplicate finder and does only that – nothing more. Gemini can help you find tons of duplicate files. Gemini 2 works as an intelligent duplicate finder. It is very smart in its operations in a bid to help you recover tones of space that you can use for saving more important files. Gemini does not delete duplicate files straight away after discovering them. The files are shown to you first in other to decide if you want to keep some of them. This is because not all files detected as duplicates are actually duplicates. Some of them are not exact copies of each other – they might just be similar files. In this case, if you need the two copies, there is no point deleting them. However, for exact duplicate, they are just a waste of disk space that you can use for storing other important files.
Comes in a Sleek Design
When it comes to the visuals of this tool, I must say that Gemini got it right. Gemini comes in a modern design. The buttons and other elements have been placed perfectly in the right positions. The tool does not even cover the full screen as other applications do. In all, I must say that Gemini 2 is good-looking. A good number of users have even stated that one of the things they like about the software is its design. It won the Red Dot award for UI design in 2017. As it stands now, Gemini is the prettiest duplicate finder for Mac. Aside from the fact that it is good-looking, it is generally minimalistic and, as such, very easy to use. The ease of usage can also be attributed to its highly specialized nature. You won’t be needing any form of guide to make use of this tool even as a first time user.
Free Trial and Refund Policy Available
Not everyone is confident with buying products they have not tested, and that includes me. I am tired of marketers sugarcoating products only for me to part with my money and discourage the product I paid for is nothing near what was advertised. For me, Gemini 2 has got me covered in this regard. They provide a free trial option you can use to try out the feature that comes with it. After the free trial is exhausted, you are expected to pay to continue using the app. Aside from the free trial option available, one other thing related to pricing that you will come to like is their refund policy. Gemini 2 offers its customers, a guarantee period of 30 days. If, within this period, you have a genuine reason to ask for a refund, MacPaw will pay you back the money you paid for the Gemini subscription.
Excellent Language Support
The last on the list of the good aspects of Gemini is its language support. Gemini 2 has support for 12 languages. The languages supported by Gemini includes English, Deutsch, Español, French, and 9 other popular languages around the world.
Gemini 2 Cons
There is no doubt that Gemini 2 is the perfect tool for finding duplicate files on Mac computers. However, they are not without their own downsides, and these downsides will be discussed under the cons section.
Pricing is expensive
A good number of people are already used to freemium utility tools. If you are one such person, then I must say you will be disappointed with Gemini 2. This is because you are not going to get it for free. Gemini 2 is a paid tool. While I am not advocating for a free tool, I find the price labeled on Gemini 2 to be expensive, especially when you compare to its competitors. Forgetting about the competitors, I still consider it expensive. If CleanMyMac X comes with 13 tools and sells for a price of $34.95 – then Gemini 2 shouldn’t be sold at $19.95 when its features were supposed to be included in CleanMyMac X.
It is Resource Hungry
Gemini 2 has only two major problems. The first is the subscription price, which has already been discussed above. The second is its CPU usage. Gemini is resource hungry and can slow down a system during scanning. For low powered Macs, Gemini 2 can even freeze them. While this can be seen as a weakness, this reason alone shouldn’t stop you from using this application. For high-end Macs, you might not even notice this. For those that will notice the slowing down or even freezing, you can just sacrifice that moment until the software is done with the scanning, and things will normalize.
Verdict: Do I Recommend Gemini 2?
Just like every other duplicate finder on Mac, Gemini 2 has its own strengths and weaknesses. Overall, the strengths outweigh the weaknesses, and as such, Gemini 2 is highly recommended. Even though I complained about the pricing, you will agree with me that pricing is not a major problem for those that can afford it.
